MARIAH ROONEY O'BRIEN, LICSW, RYT

Practicing and teaching yoga has always been a way for me to remember the beauty and depth that we each hold. It has served as a way to explore the ways in which I want to be and engage in the world. I practice and teach yoga in a way that aims to facilitate discovery, to heal and to grow. Yoga, to me, is not about the poses or about seeking some unattainable image of what we are shown yoga should be - it is about discovering the raw beauty and strength that comes from our wounds as much as it comes from the parts of us that feel whole.

I have taught yoga and meditation in studios and community settings in Minneapolis, Boulder, San Francisco and Boston. As a psychotherapist, I currently work with trauma-impacted children and adults at the Trauma Center in Boston, MA. You can find me around town and hopping around the country offering workshops and trainings on yoga, meditation and trauma.

I am an avid adventure-seeker, lover of epic nature, activist, intersectional feminist, partner, and dog lover. Yoga Nidra is my favorite medicine (with a side of chocolate).

JENNIFER HALL TAYLOR, RYT, CHHC

My great joy in my work as a yoga & meditation teacher and as a health coach, is empowering people to connect to their intuitions and trust their own wisdom. What we encounter in the macrocosm of our daily lives — effort, surrender, ego, compassion, resistance, softness— is mirrored and safely explored in the microcosm of our yoga practices. It’s both on the mat, and in nature, that I’ve learned to trust myself, to test my limits, know my strength, and allow for my pains and perceived flaws to exist as part of a whole.

I work with clients all over the world, and have taught in studios and private settings in California, Maine and Austin, where I currently teach and live. In 2017 I created the mindfulness app The Shift, a mobile tool drawing on my years of mind-body-spirit work with my clients.

I’m a devourer of books, a true omnivore, and a quick laugh. I love most to be a body in motion, in my breath, in the mountains, in the sea.

YOGA | ADVENTURE | LOCAL FOOD

This is not your average yoga retreat. Why? Because we believe retreat is less about escape and more about intentional destination. We invite you to join a magical group of womxyn for 5 days and 4 nights of RADICAL SELF CARE. We live in a time that commands much of us energetically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Our belief is that engaging in a time of RADICAL SELF CARE is a deeply personal act. This retreat is about plugging in differently so that each individual can show up in their lives and in their community with intentionality, embodied grace, awareness and two feet rooted to the Earth.

Against the beautiful backdrop of the Catskill Mountains, you will venture inward while adventuring outward. You’ll reconnect with the elements while hiking, learning to forage, connecting with local farmers and artisans, bathing in the cleansing waters of the Willowemoc Creek and nearby lakes. You’ll relax and recharge in the wood-fired sauna, dine under the stars and laugh by the fire. We will offer opportunities for both time with the group and time for individual activities and self care in whatever way you see fit. It’s all about balance, after all.

Yoga practices will be both invigorating and restorative, and will be accessible to all levels and bodies. Even our yoga mats will adventure as we find ourselves practicing riverside, lakeside and in a beautifully restored barn. Some evenings we will close with a gentle and restorative yoga nidra practice, an opportunity to explore the spaces we often try to fill with "doing things", and how to respond to the call to slow down, tune in, and restore. This yogic "sleep" is a perfect way to close each day.

All of our meals will be locally sourced and made with great love. All dietary needs are welcome, just let us know and the appropriate accommodations will be made to meet your needs.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

The retreat cost varies based on choice of accommodations and includes:

  • 4 nights accommodations

  • Delicious locally-sourced breakfast each morning

  • 2 riverside dinners

  • 2 picnic lunches

  • Daily yoga and meditation practices (yoga practices will take place in a combination of indoor and outdoor locations)

  • Daily adventure activities including: hikes in the Catskills Mountains, immersive agriculture experience at Wild Roots Farm, expert-led foraging expedition with The Outside Institute, Farm Tour of Beaverkill Trout Hatchery followed by a fire-cooked trout dinner at LMFFC, natural wine tasting, daily relaxation in the sauna, river and lake swimming. Fly-fishing lessons are also available upon request and are offered at an additional cost.

  • All transportation during retreat

  • Some snacks and wine

SAVE UP TO $150! Early birds save $75 for signing up before January 31st. Save an additional $75 by paying in full at the time of deposit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

july4th-8.jpg

Do I need to book my own flights?

You are responsible for booking your own flights or alternate form of travel. The closest airport is Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY. The next closest are JFK, Laguardia or Newark. Northeast and New England natives, you may find it more convenient and economical to drive or take a bus in lieu of a flight.

How do I get to the retreat from the airport?

LMFFC is about a 1 hr drive from Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY, a 2.25 hr drive from JFK airport, or a 2 hr drive from either Laguardia or Newark airports.

Carpooling is good for the environment and even better for making new friends! If you rent a car or are planning on driving your own and want to share the ride, just let us know and we’ll help to fill it with other guests looking for a ride. While we can’t guarantee a carpool opportunity, we will do our very best to link drivers with riders. If you would like to us to organize a private airport pick-up and drop-off for you, we are happy to do so for an additional cost. Please contact us for more information.

AND IF I’M NOT FLYING?

By car: New Englanders may choose to drive their own car or rent a car and drive up to us. The drive is beautiful and scenic!

By bus: You can take the Shortline bus to Monticello and take a car service from there or change buses in Monticello and take the bus to Livingston Manor.

Is travel insurance mandatory for this yoga retreat? How do I purchase it?

Travel insurance is not required. However, we highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance and add “cancel for any reason” to your policy. Although normal trip cancellation will cover you for illness or injury, or for a travel companions illness, injury or death, it is limited to these. With “cancel for any reason” you will receive a percentage (usually 75%-100%) of all pre-paid costs. With this coverage if something comes up, a wedding, a new job opportunity, etc. or if we would need to cancel due to staff injury or illness or other unforeseen reasons, you will be covered.

Can I use my phone? Is there internet?

Retreat is an amazing opportunity to unplug and tune in to the currents of our beautiful natural surroundings, and your own experience in your body, so we suggest leaving your phone off or on airplane mode. However, if you need it, there is cell phone service and wifi at LMFFC.

What food can I expect?

A Scandinavian-style breakfast will be provided each morning at LMFCC along with two riverside dinners and two picnic lunches. We will be out on the (small) town for dinner two evenings and will grab lunch-on-the go during two outings. You will be responsible for the cost of your food and drink in town (2 lunches and 2 dinners).

Please let us know as soon as you sign up if you have any special dietary needs, food allergies or other allergies, or any other special needs or conditions, dietary or medical.

What do I need to pack?

See the packing list

Where does the yoga take place and how often? Do I need to be able to levitate and put my foot behind my head?

Yoga will take place each morning at the farm. The practices will vary, but will be accessible to all yoga levels. Yoga on this retreat is not about learning or mastering advanced poses, it is about digging into the practice in a way that is restorative, nurturing and invigorating. Gentle yoga nidra and meditation practices will also be offered. All you need for this practice is a mat, comfortable clothes, a pillow and a blanket.

If you do know how to levitate and put your foot behind your head, be prepared to teach the rest of us! Mariah and Jen have been trying to master this for years and just don't have it yet.

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat, blocks, straps, etc?

Our home base is not a yoga retreat center so yes, please do bring your mat and any props you may need or want.

If I sign up alone and would like shared accommodations, how do you organize roommates?

We'll partner you up with someone great! Retreat is a very special time to connect with people and we’ve watched attendees at past retreats form fast and lasting friendships.

How many people will be on this yoga retreat?

There will be a maximum of 15 people on the trip.
